Research on improved biomass mapping
SarVision participates in new cutting edge research backed by ESA that will enable biomass mapping from space.
Current indirect approaches used to derive biomass estimates from satellite data for REDD baseline assessment and monitoring need further improvement.A team of leading radar and biomass research groups has started the scientific preparations for the design of the first P-band radar satellite. This future satellite mission offers capabilities for direct retrieval of biomass and other related forest parameters from the radar satellite imagery.
The teams recently met in Toulouse to report on the latest findings and exchange available test data and image processing approaches for fuerther evaluation.
Other specialist groups involved include DLR (Germany), CESBIO (France), Chalmers (Sweden), University of Wales, Aberystwyth (UK), Onera SAR Imaging Department (France), AEL Consultants (UK) among others.
