Key application fields include:
- Biodiversity conservation (e.g. mapping and monitoring wildlife habitat);
- Legal and sustainable timber and agro-industrial crop (e.g. pulp and paper, palm oil) production monitoring;
- Carbon storage, sequestration and emission monitoring;
- Fire risk, active fire detection and fire damage assessment;
- Hydrological monitoring (drought and flooding, wetland and peat swamp hydrology);
- Ecosystem services payment contracts monitoring, etc.
Capacity building and technology transfer to advance independent monitoring carried out by local staff is a key component. In Indonesia for example, SarVision trains staff of the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry at WUR at MSc and PhD level to support systematic map production and develop specific technical GIS and remote sensing skills. At present SarVision has an international team of 8 academically skilled professionals based at the Wageningen office. We have extensive scientific and technical expertise in radar remote sensing and application development, advanced digital image and signal processing, spatial analysis and modelling, field validation, specialised software design and programming, tailor-made Internet map services development and hosting, training, and environmental science.
